Q’eswachaka Inca Bridge (The 4 Lagoons)

Partake in a globally unique cultural adventure: the tour to the Q’eswachaka Inca Bridge, the last masterpiece of Inca engineering still renewed annually by hand, using ancestral weaving techniques with ichu (Andean grass). This Living Heritage, recognized by UNESCO, bravely spans the Apurímac River Canyon. Complementing this historical gem, the tour includes a spectacular scenic circuit through the high-Andean Four Lagoons: Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca. It is a day of immersion in the living culture of the communities that maintain this tradition, framed by the flora and fauna of the highlands and a view of soul-stirring Andean landscapes.

The expedition day starts very early (approximately 4:30 a.m.) with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We embark on a long journey in private transportation toward the south, delving into the heart of the Andean highlands. Our first stop is at a local restaurant in the town of Cusipata or Yanaoca to enjoy a hot and nutritious breakfast. With energy replenished, we continue our route toward the Canas Province, an area rich in history and legends. The first part of the visit focuses on the impressive Four Lagoons Circuit, where we make stops at key viewpoints to admire the beauty of Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca. These lagoons are the habitat for migratory birds like the Parihuanas (Andean flamingos) and offer a serene view of the high-Andean landscape. Finally, we arrive at the Quehue district to marvel at the Q’eswachaka Inca Bridge. You will have the opportunity to cross this 28-meter hanging structure, woven completely by hand with vegetable fibers, experiencing a profound connection with the Inca legacy. After the visit, we enjoy a restorative lunch before starting the return journey to Cusco, concluding this experience of living culture and nature near 5:00 p.m.
