Day 1: Cusco – Sacred Valley (Pisac & Ollantaytambo) – Aguas Calientes
The first day is dedicated to exploring the Sacred Valley, the agricultural and spiritual cradle of the Inca civilization. After morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco, we head first to the Pisac Archaeological Site, famous for its impressive terraces and its traditional market, where you will have time to appreciate local handicrafts. The route continues along the Urubamba River, passing through picturesque Andean towns that preserve the cultural legacy, while your expert guide explains the Inca worldview and the strategic importance of this valley. We enjoy an included buffet lunch in Urubamba, with a varied offering of Peruvian cuisine. The afternoon culminates at the imposing Ollantaytambo Fortress, a living testament to Inca military and religious architecture, where we explore its temples and terraces. Once the visit to Ollantaytambo is complete, the group heads to the local train station to board the service that takes you to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). This scenic journey runs through the narrow canyon of the Urubamba River, immersing you in a spectacular high-jungle landscape. Upon arrival, you will be met and escorted to your hotel, where you can check in and relax. In the evening, your guide meets with you at the hotel for a detailed briefing on the itinerary and schedule for the following day at Machu Picchu, ensuring you are fully prepared for the citadel visit. Dinner is on your own, allowing you to enjoy the town’s gastronomy at your own pace.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu (Guided Tour) – Cusco
The second day begins early with the bus transfer (CONSETUR) up to the citadel, a journey of approximately 25 minutes. The goal is to arrive at the entrance of Machu Picchu at a time that allows you to experience the magical atmosphere of the morning, before the arrival of the crowds. Once inside the Historic Sanctuary, you begin a guided tour of approximately 2.5 hours. The tour covers the most emblematic and significant sectors of the Llaqta, such as the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Condor, the Main Plaza, and the Sacred Rock. Your guide shares the secrets of this Inca masterpiece, its astronomical, religious, and social function, sparking your admiration for the engineering and spirituality of its builders. After the enriching guided tour, you will have free time for personal exploration and to capture the panoramic views you have dreamed of. This time is ideal for reflection and for absorbing the unique energy of the place. At the indicated time, you take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you will have time for lunch (not included) before heading to the train station to begin the return journey. You board the train destined for Ollantaytambo (or Poroy, depending on the schedule), where private ground transportation will be waiting to transfer you comfortably and safely back to Cusco city. Arrival in Cusco is estimated for the afternoon/evening, thus concluding an unforgettable experience.
